Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) Working Group

The Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) Working Group is dedicated to leveraging AI technologies to create a more prosperous, inclusive and equitable future for Aotearoa New Zealand. We work on behalf of the AI Forum’s Executive Council to meet strategic objectives through collaboration, research and thought leadership.

Why we have formed

Our working group aims to drive AI adoption within the AEC industry, which contributes over $17.6 billion to New Zealand’s GDP or 6.3 percent. Our group emerged from the 2024 AI Blueprint workshops which highlighted the need for AI integration, development of a National Digital Twin, fostering education and talent, and establishing regulator standards for AI and data management.

Deliverables

Our working group is actively developing its plan, guided by insights from the AI Blueprint for Aotearoa 2024. We’ve outlined four initial workstreams:

  1. Assess
Publish a white paper providing recommendations and a roadmap for integrating AI into the AEC industry.
  2. Upskill
Develop educational materials and training programmes to accelerate AI adoption across the AEC workforce.
  3. Inform
Build a knowledge base to standardise AI practices in AEC, including guidelines, benefits and case studies.
  4. Innovate
Support the development of a National Digital Twin, ensuring AI is used safely and effectively on a national level.
