Artificial intelligence and the impact on education

EVENT RECORDING:

About the event:

Join the conversation on the impact of AI on education and how we navigate this new era of education.

We have moved from a world where everything is discoverable (search engines), through a world where everything is knowable (ChatGPT), to a world where machines can do just about anything (general AI).

Late last year, ChatGPT (Chat Generative Pretrained Transformer) was launched by OpenAIIt uses supervised and reinforcement learning to produce a chatbot that closely reflects human language, more so than previous chatbots. It can have a conversation with you, write essays, compose songs and lyrics, and write code. Although it sounds intelligent, it’s not always factually correct and still needs a human to educate it.

Because ChatGPT can produce essays, it poses a threat to how we approach assessments in schools, teach writing, and produce learning materials. We’ve found ways to filter and identify plagiarism in students’ work through various software, but will this still work for things like chatbots and AI?

Hear the views of AI and education experts and be part of the discussion on how we can navigate this new era of education.

Topics discussed in the webinar, include:

Part 1:

  • Use cases with examples from an education setting
  • The current and future capabilities and limitations of generative AI
  • Impacts on how we think about writing, assessment, producing learning materials
  • Opportunities and threats for education

Part 2:

  • The impacts on the skills learners need to master
