Building AI governance expertise in Aotearoa

Ready to become an AI governance leader? As organisations navigate AI risks, regulations and trust issues, the need for qualified AI governance professionals has never been more critical.

“We know AI will play an increasingly greater role in the future of work. With low levels of trust, fear of AI risks and a growing array of AI-targeted regulation globally, AI governance expertise has never been more important,” says Frith Tweedie, AI Forum Executive Council member and Simply Privacy Director.

If you would like to deepen your knowledge and future proof your career, certification is an important first step, she says.

“Certification provides a globally recognised standard in AI governance, equipping professionals with the knowledge to manage AI risks, build responsible AI frameworks and align AI systems with established legal and ethical principles.”

The AI Governance Professional (AIGP) certification from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) has recently updated its materials to reflect evolving technology and AI governance developments. The programme provides training in managing AI systems responsibly, including risk management, governance frameworks and regulatory compliance.

This globally recognised certification demonstrates you can ensure safety and trust in the use of AI systems, including practical strategies for responsible AI implementation. This includes understanding:

  • the foundations of AI governance
  • how laws, standards and frameworks apply to AI
  • how to govern AI development
  • how to govern AI deployment and use.

“This programme is delivered locally by Simply Privacy. While the standard AIGP course provides a robust international foundation, we’ve added a range of New Zealand specific insights to address our local regulatory environment, making it highly relevant.”

“If you would like a better understanding of AI systems, risks and governance, this programme will enhance your career prospects and help contribute to responsible AI development in Aotearoa.”

The next course in March is valuable for legal and privacy professionals, AI developers and practitioners, policy makers, risk managers and compliance officers.
