DESCRIPTION:AUT’s Technology in Society expert speaker series is aimed at providing opportunities to grapple with technology and its impacts on our world. \nOn May 15 we welcome Laura Ellis\, the BBC’s Head of Technology Forecasting for a free public event. \n  \nLaura is a technologist and journalist with a focus on emerging technology\, machine learning\, disinformation\, and data. She has worked on news teams in radio\, TV\, and online and led two regional news and current affairs teams thorough significant technology change\, establishing the BBC’s first end-to-end digital newsroom.  \nIn her current role she focuses on ensuring the BBC is best placed to take advantage of emerging technology and takes a particular interest in ethics\, personalised and automated journalism\, machine learning and generative AI.  \n  \nA discussion between Vice-Chancellor Damon Salesa and Laura Reid on how best to navigate the increasingly dangerous information landscape. \n\nHow do we safeguard trustworthy information and allow it to be reliably found?\nHow do we protect those for whom the landscape is especially hostile – and make the landscape more equitable and navigable?\nHow do we create safe places of debate?\nWhat are the benefits and opportunities created by this new landscape?\n\nWhen:5pm – 6.30pm\, Wednesday 14 May \nWhere: WG201\, AUT City Campus \nThis free event is open to students\, staff and the public
