SUMMARY:SOLD OUT | Female led hackathon solves real-world problems
DESCRIPTION:Join the female led all inclusive AI EnviroHack on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 September in Auckland.  Learn from others\, fast track your technical and business knowledge while you work on purpose driven outcomes. \nQ: Why do we need a female led hackathon? \nA:  Diversity brings strength! Women and non-binary genders are under-represented in the tech world and it’s important we help change this. We are creating a welcoming learning environment to show there is a place in tech for everyone.  Plus\, you’ll be working with other females to develop an innovative AI for the environment project. \n\nQ: I don’t know how to code\, should I still attend? \nThe event is designed for first-time hackers\, even if you’ve never written a line of code! We actively encourage people from all backgrounds and disciplines to attend. There are a range of roles you can play in a hackathon including design\, customer centric\, business focused and technical.  We have mentors to support and guide you along the way. Just bring yourself\, a willingness to learn and a positive attitude! \nQ: How does it work? \nA hackathon is a design and coding sprint where a team of hackers (participants) with technical and non-technical backgrounds create solutions and projects. Throughout the hackathon\, you will learn many new skills and connect with peers and mentors.  At the end of the weekend\, you will have the opportunity to demo your project and a chance to win prizes! The winning team will also go onto pitch their solutions at the Aotearoa AI Summit on 12 September in Auckland\, where the overall winners will be announced.  \nQ: How do I participate? \nYou can come solo or with a team. A team consists of up to five people and should include a range of members.  For example\, designers\, UI/UX\, software engineer\, data scientist or business focused.  If you don’t already have a team\, please come along and join one.  Individuals can also pitch an idea and then decide which team they would like to join on the day. \nQ: What is the problem we’re solving? \nDo you have a passion to save the planet\, starting in our backyard? We’re bringing to life practical examples from our recently published AI for Environment in Aotearoa New Zealand report. The hackathon is focused on delivering real life examples to help build a coherent environmental data ecosystem including: \n\nDeploying AI alongside other new technologies to enhance environmental data collection.\nDeveloping a national environmental open data framework.\nConsidering where and how mātauranga Māori may be incorporated within Government AI systems.\nCoordinating the development of standards and best practices for environmental data management.\n\nQ: What may a solution look like? \nA: The aim is to participate\, ideate and learn. If your objective is also to win\, the judges will need to see a clear purpose in your creation. You will also need to appeal to a wider audience\, not just data scientists and technologists. For example: \n\nDemonstrate the collaboration of citizen science with academic and government research to uncover previously hidden insights. This may include emissions\, erosion\, native and non-native flora\, fauna and sea life\, and waste.\nDemonstrate the collection of data from various sources for an environmental purpose without impacting data sovereignty. For example\, Federated Data and Data Mesh.\nConsider the deployment of AI alongside other new technologies to enhance environmental data collection\, enabling the incorporation of mātauranga Māori and principles of accessibility and openness into a Climate Change solution.\n\nQ: Why should I attend? \nThis is the ideal opportunity to hone your skills with real-life problems in a supportive environment. Share ideas\, knowledge and gain valuable development experience. You’ll also benefit from attending this inclusive event by: \n\ncollaborating on a solution that is good for the world\nextending your comfort zone in a supportive environment\nshowcasing your skills and learn even more\ncreating new connections and team building\ndeveloping communication and presentation skills\n\nQ: What will I need? \nA: Please bring your own laptop or tablet and charger.  Plus\, enthusiasm\, ideas and a team spirit! \n\nSupported by:
